VERONIKA (12, BUDAPEST)

The seemingly simple question of what you wish for, asked by the Magic Lamp volunteers, is actually not that easy to answer when you can only make one wish.

Veronika also had to think about it for a bit who or what her wish would be. Naturally, the pondering did not last long, she wished to meet her favorite and role model, Ed Sheeran.

As His Excellency Ambassador Iain Lindsay knows the mission of our foundation well and has already helped turn several wishes into reality, we asked for his and his colleagues support with this wish. We organized and kept our fingers crossed for several weeks waiting to hear if it would be possible.

Prior to her serious medical condition, Veronika was an active gymnast and dancer on a high level. She has already liked Ed's music back then and kept listening to his songs during her treatments. She knows most lyrics by heart, which I was able to witness as I sat next to her during the concert.

She went into the meet up well prepared. She had her questions ready for Ed and practiced her English so she could talk with him.

The meet up took place on August 7 before the concert at the Sziget festival. I don't even know who was more excited, her or me. Roni had all her questions written down and practiced her English until the last minute so that everything would go smoothly. I was only worried if there would be enough time for her to ask all the questions. Needless to say, she spoke to the singer, who welcomed her warmly, with amazing confidence.

Veronika also made a blue bracelet as a gift, which Ed put on immediately and we saw that he kept on wearing it during his performance. For me, the most touching moment was not even when they took a picture together or hugged each other, but when Roni said goodbye with the following words:

- Meeting you was an experience for a lifetime and I will always remember it. I hope that it was the same for you and that you will remember me as well.

The reply was another hug from the bottom of his heart and a sincere smile.

/ 5

I believe that this experience will greatly help Roni to recover faster. I am grateful for having been part of another Magic Lamp wonder and for meeting you, Roni. Get well soon!

In Roni's name, we would like to thank Mr Ed Sheeran and his manager, His Excellency Iain Linday, the British Ambassador to Hungary, the staff at the British Embassy as well as the management of Sziget and our supporters, without whom this dream could not have become reality.

NÁNDOR (16, DEBRECEN)

Nándi is a modest, decent boy. He comes from a cheerful musician family. He is also a talented musician performing with family members on weddings and other occasions. Understandably he wished for a pair of active speakers to exploit fully the capabilities of his synthethiser and enhance their performances.

He was all smiles when he got his present and of course plugged in and tried sount of the new speakers.

We wish Nandor a full recovery!

We would like to thank for the support of the CHARITIES AID FOUNDATION AMERICA CAF in the name of Nandor too!

KRISZTOFER (12, KECSKEMÉT)

Krisztofer was at the clinic for his last treatment when his wish was fulfilled and he became the proud owner of a Samsung smart watch. He was asleep when we arrived, but his mother quickly woke him as he had been asleep for a while already. We waited for a little bit to allow him to wake up fully and for him to realize that his wish was about to become reality.

He was ecstatic when we gave him the watch. He opened the box, carefully inspected the watch from all sides, got it up and running and synced within moments. He started to explore the gadget with great interest and was surprised by the number of tasks it could perform.

Our long-time supporter Firstmed-FMC Kft. was able to bring happiness to yet another child. We thank them for their help!

PÉTER SZABOLCS (9, BALATONEDERICS)

This year wishes of 3 kids were fulfilled at the same time, as all of them wanted to visit Disneyland Paris. It was the first time that Bianka, Emma and Peter had travelled by plane, so they were quite excited when we met at the airport.

We arrived to the hotel around 3 o’clock in the afternoon and we thought we had entered a Disney story book. After occupying the rooms, we went to the park, where we all were impressed and this memorable feeling lasted for days! We met Mary Poppins, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, and Donald Duck right in the first 30 minutes.
The following two days passed with the same intensity, we were in a Star Wars simulator, we rode the roller coaster, watched Pinocchio and Snow White, and we also visited the Ghost’s Castle… it’s a never-ending list. The kids were doing well. It was good to see how their individuality appeared by the end of the third day.

Peter is a very reserved boy. But the more time we spent together, the more we saw that he was a real man, who became totally excited by the rollercoaster and by other "madnesses" he found at the parc.

Many thanks for the support of Eurodisney Central Reservation Booking, E.ON Hungária Zrt., the a British International School of Budapest and our private donors, that allowed us to realise Peter's dream!

Emma is a real “little lady”. According to her mother, she was always a sober-minded girl, but she "grew up" suddenly because of her illness. Emma has a wonderful smile and good sense of humor. Our adventures transformed her soon into a joyful little girl who really enjoyed every moment of the journey.

Just one year ago Bianka was still in a wheelchair, but now she has been walking through Disneyland for 3 days, as if she would have never been sick. Bianka has a very strong personality and her sense of humor is excellent. We were laughing a lot. And she is a real Marvel fan...

VIKTÓRIA (12, PÁSZTÓ)

”Magic Lamp children” have to overcome many obstacles on their way to the complete recovery… Viktoria's life also had been changed by an „out of the blue” cardiac surgery from one day to the other...

She is keen on reading, her favourite book is Vampire Diaries, but she also likes drawing and painting. When Viki got her new heart, she decided to learn playing guitar if she is fully recovered. Her friends and classmates helped her even when she couldn't go to school, and they were looking forward to meeting her again. Since Viki is not allowed to go to school for a while, she asked for a laptop from the Magic Lamp Foundation that can help her to keep on learning, and certainly she can also chat with her friends as well as watch her favourite movies.

We invited Viki and her family to an extraordinary literary evening at British Ambassador’s Residence in Budapest, where she could meet His Excellency Iain Lindsay Ambassador, literateur Anna Juhász, foreign policy correspondent Al Ghaoui Hesna, actress Gabriella Hámori, flutist Dávid Kanyó, and quite a few Magic Lamp supporters, companies and privates as well. Viki was a little bit surprised when the Ambassador greeted her very friendly and in Hungarian.

/ 7

However, Viki had the real surprise when she received the awaited laptop from Ms. Teodora Bodó, communications director of Provident Finance Inc. together with her favourite book's film version, the first 2 seasons of Vampire Diaries. Everybody was silent and moved for a few minutes…

Viki could have gone home to watch the movie, but since she loves literature, she enjoyed the musical conversation about the British and Hungarian cultures, mutual understanding, journeys, and the role literary works play in all of the above.

At the end of the program, joint photos were taken with the contributors, the Ambassador, and everybody wished Viki a quick and full recovery.

We hope that the moments of this extraordinary wish-fulfillment will be a lifelong experience for her and will help Viki to return quickly to her usual weekdays. We all wish her good health and lots of strength!

We would like to thank all the participants of the Magic Lamp Literary Evening, literateur Anna Juhász, foreign policy correspondent Al Ghaoui Hesna, actress Gabriella Hámori, flutist Dávid Kanyó and the sponsors of the event, the Embassy of Great Britain, Budapest Airport, Danubius Hotels, Pepper House, Provident Finance Inc. and certainly many thanks to His Excellency Iain Lindsay and his kind wife, Bridget for hosting the event. Thanks to their benefaction, we could be participants of a successful show and together, we we were able to realize Viki’s dream in the beautiful surrounding of the British Embassy residence.

Albert (17, Sándorfalva)

Albert is keen on cars, so when he got to know that he may wish something from the Magic Lamp Foundation, he wasn't thinking too much.

As he formulated: "It is OK, that I can repair our family car, but I'd like to drive it too at last."

He is interested in technical skills, that's why he is studying at a mechanical engineering secondary school. His family has a car and fullfilment of Albert's wish - to get a driver's license - has become within reach.

He easily passed the exam of the theoretical course about traffic rules at a driving school in Szeged.

Practical training is about to start and we wish him the same success.

Many thanks for the support of the American International School of Budapest .

Ádám (11, Sárisáp)

Ádám arrived to our office not knowing anything. He was told this visit was only about some negotiation about his wish.

He was really surprised, whe wouldn’t think he would get his new laptop he wished for that day by Málnási Kinga. He was really excited.

During the setup of the laptop, he even cried a little from joy.

We couldn’t decide who was more touched by the moment, him or us, grown ups. We could witness some beautiful, valuable moments there, it was wonderful seeing that pure joy on the little boy’s face.

We would like to thank Firstmed-FMC Kft. for the support and Málnási Kiga for being there personally.

LAJOS (9, DERECSKE)

,

As Lajos has to spend quite a lot of time in the hospital, he asked the Csodalámpa Foundation for a mobile phone which he could use to play games, listen to music, and stay in touch with his family.

When I arrived to the hospital on a Tuesday, Lajos instantly cheered up. Somehow he could tell I had come bearing his gift...

The very moment he unboxed his new phone, he was already beginning to use it with excitement. He was overjoyed that he finally had his own phone.

Enjoy your gift Lali!

ALEXANDRA ATÉNÉ (12, SZOLNOK)

Alexandra has watched the Italian championship on TV together with his father since she was a little child. She is an enthusiastic Juventus fan, she has got a collection of jerseys, hats, flags, mugs… but her real desire was more than that.

Alexandra’s dream was to cheer for her favourite team in the stadium of Juventus...

So, we began to organize it, but we wouldn’t have thought what a hard work it would be. It is very complicated to get a ticket for the Italian championship and it is almost impossible if it is a Juventus-Milan match.

We almost gave it up, when one of our Italian supporters could help us to buy 3 tickets. We got the good news shortly after Alexandra's 13th birthday, and certainly she was very happy.

We started to organize the trip, and finally our small team boarded a plane to Milan on 5th April.

After a short sightseeing tour in Milan on Friday, we left for Torino on Saturday. There we occupied our accommodation, then we went to the evening match. The whole city was raving about the football match.

Alexandra remembers the great experience of her life as follows:

“My great dream came true. My wish was to watch live a Juventus match, and it was fulfilled by the Magic Lamp Foundation.
On April 6, 2019, I had an opportunity to see a JUVENTUS-MILAN match in Torino. My favourite team won 2-1, and I saw live Paulo Dybala, my favourite player to shoot a goal!
Thank you very much once again for the unforgettable experience.”

The match was incredible , but visiting the football museum on Sunday was also a memorable program for Alexandra.

Many thanks to Mr Luca Formigli for his exceptional help that made the girl's dream come true.

Thanks for the support of the National Bank of Hungary, Mellow Mood Hotels and Fércművek and our other private sponsors.

RAVAND (10, BUDAPEST)

Ravand’s big dream was to visit the sea.

One beautiful sunny day after 6 hours in the car we arrived to a small town in Croatia. From the car we could see some parts of the sea already but the interesting part was when we visited the local beach in Senj. The beach had big rocks around and it so it was perfect for swimming. It was so nice and fun we went back nex day too. Ravand swam a lot in these two days, which had a good effect on his desease. He loved watching the small fishes under him and the life of the sea. He even got some new goggles and pipe for it.

After the beach days we visited the town of Silo on the Krk Island.

We went there with a motorboat which added to the experience. Unfortunately one day we had to stay at our apartment because it was a big storm but we had some time to go on a motorboat trip and see the beaches around Senj. We were taken by Brankovics István who is the manager of Galathea Diving Center. We had to hold on to the boat really strong, we felt like the wind is going to blow us away. But the sight was wonderful, we fell in love more and more with Croatia.

Ravand and his family went to the beach on our last day, and they hope they will have the opportunity to visit the sea again here or somewhere else.

We would like to thank the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the Cisco Systems Hungary, it's partner, the CAF America and private supporters for their help that allowed us to realise the dream of Ravand.

We would also like to thank the Galathea Diving Center for their kindness and for providing Ravand with unexpected new adventures .

Fruzsina (10, Mencshely)

Despite her illness, Fruzsina is quite the lively and energetic girl! This is exactly why her wish, a hoverboard, was no surprise to us.
When she first saw the large box containing her gift and finally managed to open it, her joy was boundless.

She could not help but try her hoverboard immediately. Riding around the hospital hallways relentlessly, it was clear she was truly loving her gift.

Enjoy your gift, Fruzsi!!

TAMÁS (17, BUDAPEST)

Tamás wished for an acoustic guitar from our Magic Lamp Foundation.

He decided in an honorable and commendable way that it was about time for him to learn to play the guitar.

Yes, but there are so many types of guitars differing in size, sounding … How could I possibly find out which one was the best for him? Than I had an idea: I called him on the phone and asked what type of music he liked.

To a certain extent, our preferences are similar, we both like music by Led Zeppelin. As there are many acoustic songs on their third album, played on steel-stringed guitars, the question of „which type of guitar” was solved.

After that we discussed the options via phone and the Internet, and chose an extraordinarily beautiful mahagoni Ibanez guitar.

/ 5

I purposely did not schedule our meeting for April 1st (so that he does not accidently take it as a prank…) and I was especially glad to be able to meet Tamás in his home.

Tamás carefully opened the large trapeze shaped box in which, if I am not mistaken, the guitar had arrived to us, well to him to be exact, from Indonesia. His big smile assured me that I had made the right decision, it was not only me who liked the guitar. I showed him how to hold it and even played a few notes so he could hear what it sounds like. It sounds great!

After a bit more of “guitar chit-chat” and some advice, I said goodbye to him and his family; I wished Tamás good health and to get well soon in the name of the entire Magic Lamp team.

We would like to thank the students of the British International School Budapest and other private donors in the name of Tamás too as we granted his wish with their support.

VIDA (13, SZOMBATHELY)

Vida and his brothers are huge Liverpool FC fans, so it was no question what his wish would be: he would have liked to watch a home game of the football club.

We had to try really hard with the organizing, since the wheelchair tickets, which we needed, were already sold out for the whole season. In the end, we were able to get a ticket directly from the club.

We got going so Vida could see his favorite team on their home pitch. His oldest brother accompanied him for this unforgettable weekend. On the first day after arrival, we attended a stadium tour, where a lot of photos had been taken with the life-size puppets of the favorite players under the old jerseys. In the evening, we discovered the city. At Sunday noon, we watched the game excitedly from the first row. The weather wasn’t too kind to us, but the cold and the icy rain couldn’t mess up this day either.

We were lucky enough to watch 3 out of the 4 winning goal up close, since we were sitting directly behind the goal.

The atmosphere of the sold out stadium can’t be described, the little boy was enjoying every moment of it!

We hope that this weekend will live in Vida’s memory forever!

We are greatful for the recurring support of the Batschka Foundation and Lury Ház, the members and management of XpatLoop, the biggest xpat organisation in Hungary and our private donors, among them Mr. Tamás Mátrai. With their help, Vida’s dream has come to reality as well!

CSENGE (8, KISTARCSA)

I met Csenge at the hospital and she had no idea that her wish will come true today as her parents only told her that they have to pop in to the clinic for a quick check.

Our supporter, BlackRock was represented by Agota Kovacs who remembers the day with the following words:
"Csenge was adorable, it gave her a massive surprise when I explained why I was there. When she opened the laptop her first reaction was that she will show her beautiful white laptop to her friends.

I helped her to switch it on and we did the main settings. Her happiness could not have been more obvious as we 'tried' the laptop a few times while I was with her.

Looking at Csenge's and her parents' joy I am confident, that the laptop is in the best hands."

We would like to thank in the name of Csenge the support given by BlackRock Budapest office!

Zsolt (10, Szeged)

Standing there with the remote controlled train in our hands, we knew instantly that the smile spreading across Zsolti’s face was a smile we would never forget.

The LEGO set itself was so large that it took us an incredible amount of time just to understand all of its characters and background story. In fact, the attention to detail was so remarkable that if we removed the roof of the hot dog store and peeked inside, there was an entire complex of customers drinking coffee and going about their lives. Of course Zsolti knew all of this already; he had watched it with great excitement in a video prior to our arrival. Yet when receiving the gift, genuine excitement and gratitude radiated off of him, warming all of our hearts.

After realizing that we forgot to get the batteries for the remote, one of us ran down to the store to buy some while the others helped unpack the contents of the box onto Zsolti’s hospital bed. Observing the LEGO set we were thinking to ourselves how many hundreds of pieces it may have consisted of, puzzled at its size. Zsolti himself was quite impressed too, remarking that the remote controller for the train was the newest and most impressive model. And to our greatest joy, his responses led us to believe that we really did bring him a cool gift!

Zsolti, we hope our gift will bring you lots of joy in times to come and thank you for having us!!

KITTI ZSUZSANNA (14, PÉCS)

Kitti’s wish was to spend a couple days in Hajdúszoboszló on vacation with her mother and siblings. And since they were relaxing near to my home I was able to meet up with Kitti and her family. I took them out for lunch in order for us to be able to get to know each other a bit. This restaurant was modelled after a ship both on the interior and exterior.

Kitti loved it, and all of her tension seemed to disperse very quickly! She talked about her current treatment and what has been happening to her recently. Evidently, like all the other kids Csodalampa works with, she is quite the fighter herself.

Seeing that we were getting along very well we were able to spend several hours together! I found that she has an caring family, who protect her and love her dearly.

Kitti also talked about her experience in Hajdúszoboszló and revealed that she had a great time there! I was very happy to be able to meet Kitti and I hope that we will have yet another chance to meet again.

Dear Csodalámpa!

I would like to thank you for granting my long standing wish to visit Hajdúszoboszló. After all the problems caused by my illness it was a real enlightment to have holiday with my mum and brother..

It was real fun, the hotel was beautiful, all the staff really kind to me. The spa was excellent, with lots of pools, slides - I tried almost all of them.
I also learned new things like playing mini golf, and I rolled on an electric scooter too...

We even went to Debrecen for a day to visit the Zoo and also the fun park. I could play with animals, and I triwed lots of attractions too.

I've got a lot of beautiful experiences. Thank you very much for the opportunity!

CSILLA (14, BUDAPEST)

Csilla is quite an artist, drawing is her biggest hobby.

The young teenage girl’s dream was to own tablet which could allow her to draw and unveil her creativity. Such a tablet could allow her creativity to soar and express herself in her way.

Her dream was became a reality when Csilla was undergoing a lengthy set of treatments at the hospital. It was to her greatest surprise when Judit Drakopoulos, on behalf of Corinthia Hotel Budapest, presented her with her gift, the Tablet. This tablet was followed by other useful and valuable gifts, emerging one by one from Judit’s bag.

Csilla got so excited that she initially was even scared to hold the tablet, for fear of that she might break it. Yet eventually, after a bit of encouragement, she meticulously unboxed the tablet and squeezed it against herself. Her gaze gave away that her thoughts were already elsewhere, contemplating the future use of this new companion and the expressive pieces of art that she was sure to create with it.

Seeing the young artist’s excitement we felt it was time to slowly leave her. We, of course, did not want impede on the young creator’s first big opportunity to truly express herself and her artistic fantasies.

On behalf of both the teams of Corinthia Hotel Budapest and the Csodalámpa team we wish her a swift recovery and hope she remains persistent in the pursuit of her dreams!

We would like to thank Mrs. Judit Pécsi Drakopoulos , the hotel’s marketing and communication manager for personally attending the granting of Csilla’s wish.

We would like to thank Corinthia Hotel Budapest and its gracious guests for their generousity, attention and selfless help, that made this wish come true.

Patrícia, as most of her age-group, really likes cartoons.

The hours spent on watching cartoons make her days in the hospital more bearable; therefore, she wished from the Magic Lamp Wish Granting Foundation nothing else than a tablet, capable of watching cartoons.

The delivery of the gift was a little bit delayed, but we hope that this device brought even more joy to Patrícia.

We wish her a lot of joyful moments granted by these cartoons, so she can forget the everyday struggles.

Thank you to UNHCR Global Service Centre for their help.
